Clark County Commission Chairman Marilyn Kirkpatrick presented “Jeopardy!” sensation James Holzhauer with a Key to the Las Vegas Strip and a proclamation during a ceremony at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. Holzhauer, a Las Vegas resident and professional sports bettor, has dazzled audiences with his knowledge of academic, historic and popular subject categories and his ongoing winning streak on the popular TV show. He ended his 32-game winning streak $60,000 shy of Ken Jennings’ all-time record of $2,522,700. The Commission chairman recognized Holzhauer as a goodwill ambassador for Las Vegas and for his generosity to the community. Holzhauer has donated some of his winnings to local charities, including $10,000 to the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, which he frequently visits with his wife and their young daughter. “Jeopardy!” airs locally on KLAS-TV Channel 8 at 7 p.m. Holzhauer’s study strategy included reading children’s books. On the show, he seeks out high-value clues first, hunting for Daily Doubles. When he finds them, he bets everything he has with his trademark “all-in” hand gesture, as if he’s pushing poker chips to the center of the table.
